My Story

Once upon a time, I was the worst homemaker in the world...Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating but, unfortunately, not by too much.  I hated cleaning up after myself or anyone else-not a good trait to have with two energetic little kids and an anxious, albeit adorable, terrier. I struggled to get dinner on the table, could not/would not keep up with all the household chores, and I resented the fact that I was a stay-at-home mom. I was sure that I was just wasting away in my new role in life, and that the grass would be so much greener on the other side....Boy, was I wrong. When some painful and difficult circumstances suddenly shoved me to the other side of the proverbial fence, I realized that I never really had it that bad after all.  That, in fact, my life could have actually been pretty good, if only I had cared for it more, more thoughtfully, more intentionally...Which leads me to the title of this blog- Keeper of the Pearls. Since I've been given the opportunity to get my life back, I now value my roles in life so much more- mother, wife, mentor, lifelong learner, and yes, home manager/homemaker. No longer do I grudgingly accept this title- now I embrace it. For truly I am, more so than anyone else, the maker of my home, and it is my privilege to make this home a comfortable, clean, thoughtfully arranged haven where my family can make happy memories. Thus, I now try to treat each of my responsibilities like pearls, treasures to keep forever.

On a lighter note, I am a modern nomad who has lived throughout the world as an Air Force brat and an Army wife (Germany, Spain, South Korea, and Hawaii are among the highlights.) As I mentioned earlier, I have two sparkly kids (girl aged six, boy aged four), a crazy, little dog, and a definitely-would-rather-be-fishing husband.  I love traveling, reading, trying new recipes, reviewing products that improve my life, and organizing (or, at least, attempting to organize) things. Once my two little ones are firmly ensconced in school I plan to plunge back into the working world with gusto but right now I'm enjoying and making the best of my time with my family at home. I definitely don't know it all, but I'm eager to share what pearls of knowledge I've learned so far in my unpredictable life...
